Case Study – Aldi Acquisition – Whittlesey
We were delighted to act for our valued client, Aldi Stores Ltd, on the freehold acquisition of a 2.3acre site in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. We exchanged on the site in April 2021 and assisted where necessary with the preparation of our client’s planning application. This application was validated in September 2021 and proposed an Aldi foodstore of just over 19,500sqft with more than 120 parking spaces.
The application was submitted in conjunction with a separate proposal by Barratt David Wilson Homes, for the delivery of over 200 homes on land immediately adjacent.
Both applications garnered a significant amount of local support, thanks in part to our client’s extensive public consultation efforts.
Planning consent was granted via a delegated decision on 1st April 2022, a little less than 12 months from originally exchanging contracts – this was a great result, especially given the difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
We are continually on the lookout for similar sites for our client – if you feel you have anything suitable, please do not hesitate to get in touch
